The Betty Ate Collection. A slice of cake you can wear.
To mark Betty Crocker's "Bettier Than Ever" era, General Mills set out to do something a 100-year-old baking icon rarely does: step into culture, not just the pantry. Manufactured was tasked with translating an amazing idea into a physical object people would actually want to own, something that could earn attention in a world where a cake-mix box gets scrolled past. The answer was the Betty Ate Collection: a limited run of statement handbags shaped like slices of cake.
Manufactured led the design, prototyping, and production of three fashion-grade bags: Yellow Cake, Triple Chocolate Fudge, and Strawberry, each rendered in premium vegan leather with colorways drawn straight from Betty Crocker's packaging. Every detail was engineered to reward a second look: the brand's signature red spoon reimagined as a zipper pull signed "xo, Betty," and interchangeable accessories that mimic real cake decorations, from birthday candles to chocolate swirls to strawberries.
Launched in time for New York Fashion Week and priced at $89, the collection sold out almost immediately and drove national coverage across outlets including PEOPLE, Food Network, Ad Age, and The Washington Post. More than a viral moment, the project is a proof point for what Manufactured does best: turning brand ideas into tangible, covetable objects that spark real conversation and outperform traditional advertising.
