New luminous technology for NYC’s oldest mode of communication.

As part of a project to visually capture the flight of carrier pigeons in the twilight skies of New York City, we were tasked with creating special, lightweight, avian legbands that contained a tiny remote controlled LED light.

The lights were designed specifically for the Fly By Night performance and the bands could easily be removed and replaced by the bird’s caretakers for regular bathtime and health checks.

The illumination of the flight was artist Duke Riley’s visual celebration of the natural, yet often overlooked,  beauty of the birds. Captivated by Riley’s vision and the challenge, we helped outfit 2,000 carrier pigeons with beacons of light for three shows a week.
